Our Philosophy

At One Step Up Childcare, we believe that families are at the heart of every child’s learning journey. Families are a child’s first and most important teachers, and we value strong, respectful partnerships with them. By working together with families, we create a caring, consistent, and supportive environment where children feel safe, valued, and understood.

We celebrate diversity and are committed to inclusion and reconciliation. We respect the unique cultures, languages, and traditions of all families and children, and strive to create a welcoming space where everyone feels they truly belong.

Our program is guided by the Reggio Emilia approach, which recognises children as capable, curious, and confident learners. We encourage children to explore, question, create, and express themselves, while supporting their growing independence and sense of identity.

The safety and wellbeing of every child is our highest priority. We provide a secure, nurturing environment where children can learn, play, and grow with confidence.

We acknowledge and respect the deep connection that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have to this land, and we honour their culture, history, and traditions in our daily practice.

We believe that the early years are a precious and important time. At One Step Up Childcare, we are dedicated to providing meaningful, joyful learning experiences that support each child’s social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development, and help build a strong foundation for lifelong learning.

What makes us different?

What makes us special is our commitment to provide each child with an unprecedented level of individual care, quality education, and genuine love, all of which are guided by our core values.

At One Step Up Childcare we extend well beyond just providing a safe and caring environment for our children. We believe that innovation drives development in our little ones. By exposing our children to a variety of different experiences and activities, we help them take pride in doing ordinary things extraordinarily well. This commitment to quality early learning helps us ensure each child’s best start to life.

Our collaborative approach encourages diversity and inclusion, ensuring every child feels accepted and develops the ability to think, imagine and play freely as they start their life’s journey.

Most importantly, our commitment to integrity to our children and parents is ensured in our promise to apply high ethical standards every day through the use of National Regulations and Laws.

How the CCS works

The CCS is paid directly to approved child care providers, which then pass on the benefit as a fee reduction to families. Families pay the remaining balance, known as the ‘gap fee.’ The amount of CCS a family receives depends on the following factors:

  • Combined family income: The subsidy percentage is determined by the family’s annual adjusted taxable income. For lower-income families, the subsidy can cover up to 90% of child care costs. As income increases, the subsidy percentage decreases on a sliding scale. There is an upper income limit, beyond which families may not receive any subsidy.
  • Activity test: The subsidy amount is also influenced by the parents’ level of activity, including work, study, training, or volunteering. Generally, the more hours parents engage in these activities, the more hours of subsidised child care they can access. There are four activity levels, which correspond to the maximum number of subsidised hours a child can receive: up to 24, 36, 72 or 100 hours per fortnight.
