Hello from the Emu Room (2-3 years)

Our Room

Our 2–3 room is an engaging, joyful, and supportive space where children are encouraged to explore, play, and grow with confidence. We celebrate this exciting stage of development as children become more curious, independent, and social, and we provide an environment that is safe, stimulating, and full of opportunities for discovery.

Learning in our 2–3 room is play-based and child-led, meaning we follow children’s interests to guide our program and experiences. Through imaginative play, sensory activities, construction, music, movement, and creative expression, children develop important skills such as communication, problem-solving, cooperation, and emotional regulation. Our educators thoughtfully observe and respond to each child’s interests, extending their learning in meaningful and enjoyable ways.

Growth

As children grow, we gently begin to introduce early numeracy and literacy concepts within everyday play and routines. This may include counting during activities, recognising colours and shapes, exploring books and stories, singing songs, and developing early mark-making skills. These experiences are woven naturally into play so that learning feels fun, meaningful, and developmentally appropriate.

We continue to work in close partnership with families, recognising that you are your child’s first and most important teacher. Through open communication and shared decision-making, we ensure that your child’s learning, wellbeing, and development are supported both at home and in our centre. Together, we celebrate milestones, encourage independence, and help every child feel confident, capable, and valued as they take their next steps in learning.

Activities

Our team encourage toddlers to stay active through physical activity in our fitness programs. These programs challenge their motor skills and coordination and also allows them to build strong social relationships with other children. Creative art & craft and roleplaying provide children with the opportunity to use their imagination, freedom and expression.

We provide fresh, home-cooked, nutritious meals with menus that cater for allergies, dietary needs, and cultural or religious requirements so every child can enjoy safe and balanced food throughout the day.

Our toddler program is rich, engaging, and varied, offering a range of weekly experiences including Active/Fitness, Music and Dance, Yoga, and Munch & Move as part of our holistic fitness approach to wellbeing and physical development.

Children have access to a spacious outdoor environment filled with natural elements that encourage exploration, curiosity, and discovery. Our outdoor play spaces and equipment are designed to strengthen gross motor skills, coordination, balance, and overall physical confidence.

How the CCS works

The CCS is paid directly to approved child care providers, which then pass on the benefit as a fee reduction to families. Families pay the remaining balance, known as the ‘gap fee.’ The amount of CCS a family receives depends on the following factors:

  • Combined family income: The subsidy percentage is determined by the family’s annual adjusted taxable income. For lower-income families, the subsidy can cover up to 90% of child care costs. As income increases, the subsidy percentage decreases on a sliding scale. There is an upper income limit, beyond which families may not receive any subsidy.
  • Activity test: The subsidy amount is also influenced by the parents’ level of activity, including work, study, training, or volunteering. Generally, the more hours parents engage in these activities, the more hours of subsidised child care they can access. There are four activity levels, which correspond to the maximum number of subsidised hours a child can receive: up to 24, 36, 72 or 100 hours per fortnight.
